Chill Store Shutdown / 3.5° Produce Warehouse Cooling

Carrier Rental Systems has provided a large scale cooling system for the Tesco Distribution Centre in Peterborough as their Ammonia Chiller required essential maintenance, which involved shutting down all of the site cooling plant and they needed to maintain chill store temperatures.

Customer Requirement:

One of our Key Account Refrigeration Customers approached us with a cooling project at a Tesco site in Peterborough. They needed to shut down the Ammonia Chiller for essential maintenance, which meant they would not have cooling in the 200Mtr x 100Mtr [200,000 m3] Distribution Centre. Closing this Regional Distribution Centre was not an option for Tesco as it supplied many of its major stores across the country – so our brief was to find a solution to this problem.

Chill Store Cooling - Peterborough:

This would be a mammoth cooling project to achieve "Air Conditioning Temperatures" but they required between 3°c to 4°c across the whole store. So our Key Account Manager worked closely with the customer to design a system and integrate it into the store to avoid any disruption to the operation. We supplied several internal Air Handling Units, pipe work supports across walk ways, temporary fencing for safety, our latest low noise 455kw Carrier Chillers, multiple pump sets, Generators, Cable / Distribution and over 1,000Mts of pipe work.

3.5°c Low Temperature Cooling Project:

We designed a bespoke rental package, our engineering team delivered the solution and we maintained 3.5°c throughout the distribution centre on time, on budget and without disruption.
